Staying Warm

I know…it’s been a long time since the last time I’ve posted anything. You wouldn’t believe, okay, maybe you would, how life just gets in the way. Even when you have good intentions, life gets in the way.

photo However, today we are stuck inside during a blizzard. They wanted us to stay inside today and not go out but I had cabin fever and ventured out anyway. It wasn’t too bad, but it also wasn’t too good. There weren’t very many people out in my area so it made my journey a little bit easier. Looking at these pictures from my patio door makes me wonder, what was all the big fuss about. That’s not even that much snow. However, I have to remember that for some reason, people don’t always know how to drive when it snows. There have been a lot of accidents reported over the news today.

You would think on a day like today one would want to relax and write. And to be honest, I do. However, all I’ve really been able to do today is sleep. Sounds a little bit crazy but not really since I’ve been going, going, going lately. Even now as I sit here and type this I can feel my eye lids getting heavy so I know it won’t be long before I’m sleep again.

I’m really glad I have some time off from school right now because I’d be too tired to do any studying as well. But I’m going to take advantage of the day and try and catch up on some

Hopefully later, after I’ve gotten up from yet another nap, I will be able to get some writing done.

Staying warm,

Prayers Lifted – Newtown, CT

I saw this on Facebook and had to share here also. This really touched my heart.

My prayers go out to the families who were affected by the horrible tragedy that occurred on Friday, December 14 in Newtown, CT at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Twas’ 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38
when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven’s gate.
Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.

They were filled with such joy, they didn’t know what to say.
They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
“Where are we?” asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
“This is heaven.” declared a small boy. “We’re spending Christmas at God’s house.”

When what to their wondering eyes did appear,
but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
Then He opened His arms and He called them by name.

And in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring
those children all flew into the arms of their King.
And as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
one small girl turned and looked at Jesus’ face.

And as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, “I’ll take care of mom and dad.”
Then He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe.

Then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
“Let My power and presence re-enter this land!”
“May this country be delivered from the hands of fools”
“I’m taking back my nation. I’m taking back my schools!”

Then He and the children stood up without a sound.
“Come now my children, let me show you around.”
Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
All displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.

And i heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
“In the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT.”

The Non-writing Writer

Who has ever heard of a writer not writing? Well, that would be me. Over the last week I haven’t worked on my story not once. I haven’t worked on anything for that matter. I noticed it yesterday and got disgusted. I had planned on writing – a lot. But this past week – nothing. So what is it? Why haven’t I written?

Yup, it’s my current pay job and school. I have been so busy and there have been so many deadlines that have to be met. To be quite honest, it’s depressing. I get depressed and frustrated when I want to write but my life is so busy, I don’t get to fit it in.

I know I’ve done a lot of this to myself. I try to do too many things at once. I have way too many things on my plate. I want to do everything and I want to do it now. But what happens is a lot of stuff DOESN’T get done.

I’m going to have to sit down and re-evaluate my schedule. If writing is what I want to do then I have to find the time to do it. That’s all there is to it.

So here’s to revamping my life so I can do the things I want to do.

If This is the Title…Weekly Writing Challenge

What a very clever idea! Fellow blogger, Liam, has created a wonderful challenge for all to participate in. Seems like it’ll be a lot of fun and will get those creative juices flowing.

Please visit his page at to get all the information.

The rules were taken directly from Liam’s page so you’ll have to go there for Rule #4.

If This is the Title…

Sounds amazing, I know. So here are a few things that need explaining.

The Rules:

1. First of all, a random “title” will be given.
2. It is then your job to write a story based on the title.
3. There is no word limit, but the shorter the better (500 words would probably be the maximum).
4. Then post your story on your blog, linking the post in a comment on this post.
5. The “deadline” is the Wednesday after. I will then, as well as tasking with the next title, will mention my favourite on that post and link to your blog/Twitter/Facebook etc. Everyone’s a winner!

This is designed to test your creativity, so I’ll join in too!

This week’s title is: The Missing Item

My contribution to this week’s challenge….

The Missing Item

“Where is it?” Cora demanded.

Roderick glanced away from the football game to see what Cora was up to. She was standing there with her hands on her hips glaring at him. “What are you talking about?” he asked and turned his attention back to the television screen.

This wasn’t the first time Cora had been ranting and raving about something. It always turned out to be nothing. In the beginning he would get all worked up also but he learned quickly to just leave her alone.

“Roderick, what did you do with it?”

“Cora, move from in front of the tv. You know I’m trying to watch the game.”

“I need it back Roderick. It’s important to me.”

“Are you going to move?”

“Not until you give it back,” Cora said.

“Ugh, what is it Cora? What is it that you have lost but claim I have.”

“My mind, Roderick. You took it from me last night and I need it back.”

Roderick sat up and moved to the edge of his seat. He stared up at Cora with his mouth wide open. She could not be serious.  Nah, she wasn’t he finally concluded and slid back in his seat to finish watching the game.

“Please Roderick,” Cora pleaded. She slumped down into a heap on the floor and started sobbing uncontrollably. “Please help me find it.”

It was at that point that Roderick knew he seriously needed to get his wife some help.

I was walking through the halls of the hospital and a story idea came to mind. Immediately the first sentences started forming in my head. As I continued to walk I thought to myself that this is what must be meant by always have a pad and paper handy.  Since I was on a mission and didn’t have time to stop and write anything down, I wondered if I’d remember anything by the time I got somewhere to write it down.

Luckily, I didn’t forget. And as I started to type, more things started to come to me. Just within the first page, the direction had changed.

Why am I so excited you might ask? It’s because this is the first time this has happened to me. I’m EXCITED!! Now I know how my dear friend and author, Lea Mishell feels.

So now I have to try and manage writing (which is what I want to do), doing my actual full time job and studying and doing homework for my Java programming class. But, where there is a will, there is a way.

Much love,
